Child Psychiatry in Primary Care Conference on May 27, 2009 in Holyoke

Baystate Children's Hospital and the Massachusetts Child Psychiatry Access Project ( MCPAP) will be presenting its fifth annual conference designed for primary care physicians and advanced practice nurses and the mental health professionals who collaborate with them.  This conference explores a wide variety of topics including services for children with acute mental health problems, a clinical update on pediatric bipolar disorder, the mental health/school interface, living with Asperger's syndrome, sorting out severe behavior problems in very young children, treatments for post-traumatic stress disorder, and ADHD in adolescents.  CME/CEUs will be offered.

Pediatric Mental Health Care: Strategies to Integrate Early Identification and Treatment into Primary Care - Webinar on December 4, 2008

This webinar sponsored by the National Institute for Health Care Management (NIHCM) Foundation will explore the current state of mental health services delivered to children during primary care, including a discussion of how mental health parity legislation will affect the future delivery of services in primary care. It will also discuss the current guidelines and training opportunities for primary care providers on mental health screening and treatment, including the recently updated Bright Futures guidelines. The session will highlight current health plan and health plan foundation efforts to support the integration of mental health services into primary care.

Behavioral Health Screening in Primary Care and Then What?: Forums

As of December 2007, MassHealth primary care providers have been required to offer to administer MassHealth approved behavioral health screens.

The MassHealth PCC plan,the Massachusetts Behavioral Health Partnership, and the University of Massachusetts Medical School Office of Continuing Education are jointly sponsoring forums to help primary care physicians learn more about the "after the screen" process for those patients who present with positive behavioral health screens.

One dinner/forum will take place on Thursday, October 30th from 6PM to 8PM at the Sheraton Ferncroft in Danvers.  Another dinner/forum will be held at the Beechwood Hotel in Worcester on November 6th from 6PM to 8PM.

Michele Reardon, MD will be presenting at the October 30th forum.  Dr. Reardon is the medical director of the Partial Hospital Program at the North Shore Medical Center (NSMC), and is a child psychiatrist on call for the Northeast regional Massachusetts Child Psychiatry Access Project ( MCPAP) hub at NSMC.

Matthieu Bermingham, MS will be presenting at the November 6th forum.  Dr. Bermingham is a staff psychiatrist for our Central Massachusetts MCPAP hub at the UMass Medical Center.  He is also a consulting psychiatrist for Coordinated Family Focused Care (CFFC), the medical director of Valley Human Services in Ware, and the founder and medical director of the Center for Well Being.

CME credit will be offered.

Screening Children under the Age of 21 in the Primary Care Office Setting Using Standardized Screening Tools: The New MassHealth Mandate Effective December 2007

MassHealth, the Massachusetts Behavioral Health Partnership and the MassHealth contracted Managed Care Entities are sponsoring three forums for primary care providers in June.  The forums will address screening children for behavioral health issues in the primary care setting.  These forums will be held in Pittsfield, Hyannis, and Danvers.

Robin Adair, MD, a developmental-behavioral pediatrician and an expert on early childhood development will be presenting at these forums.

Behavioral Health Screening Tools Conference at Tufts Medical Center: Wednesday, April 2, 2008 from 7AM to 9AM

The Massachusetts Child Psychiatry Access Project in conjunction with Tufts Medical Center and Floating Hospital for Children and Children’s Hospital Boston will sponsor a free behavioral health screening tools conference at Stearns auditorium at Tufts Medical Center.  The conference will be held at the Stearns Auditorium at Tufts Medical Center in Boston.  The program will feature screening tool options.  There will be ample opportunity to ask questions of our panelists from pediatrics and child psychiatry.

Annual Conference on Child Psychiatry in Primary Care: After the Screen…Assessment and Treatment Planning for Kids Identified At Risk for Psychiatric Problems in the Primary Care Setting

The Annual Baystate Children’s Hospital and MCPAP conference will be held on May 28, 2008 at the Delaney House in Holyoke from 8:30AM to 4:30PM.  New MassHealth regulations require primary care providers to conduct mental health screening for children under the age of 21.  This conference will provide direction for providers who encounter positive screens. Educational Forum about Young People and Depression

Understanding Substance Abuse in Adolescents and Young Adults: NSMC Conference on November 14, 2007

The North Shore Medical Center's Family Resource Center will present a one-day conference on substance abuse for parents, educators, and health care professionals.  The conference will take place at the Sheraton Ferncroft Hotel in Danvers.

The conference will include the most recent information about substance abuse disorders.

CME/CEUs will be available.  The cost of the conference for those who register before October 31, 2007 is $75 for individuals and $100 for two parents.  The fee will increase for those who register after October 31st to $100 for individuals and $125 for two parents.

Northeast Regional MCPAP Medical Director, Jefferson Prince, MD will be one of the presenters. He will speak on "Medical Treatments for Substance Abuse Disorders".

AACAP Holds Institute for Primary Care Clinicians on October 27, 2007

The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) will be holding an institute for primary care clinicians at the Boston Sheraton Hotel on Saturday, October 27th from 8 AM to 3 PM.

The objective of this presentation is to provide practical information about the use of psychotropic medications in the primary care setting.

Topics will include evidence based pharmacotherapy for ADHD; management of pediatric depression in the primary care setting; pediatric anxiety; and aggression and bipolar, schizophrenia, and autism.

Massachusetts Child Psychiatry Access Project's Jefferson Prince MD, Northeast Medical Director, will be presenting a talk entitled "The Management of Pediatric Depression in the Primary Care Setting" at the institute.

The cost of this institute is $120 for AACAP members/nonmembers; Residents: $60; Medical Students: $25.

CME credit will be offered for this institute.
