Toolkit for Screening, Diagnosing, Treating, and Monitoring Adolescent Depression in the Primary Care Setting is Now Available

In order to help primary care physicians put the new AAP guidelines for adolescent depression into effect, a special toolkit was developed. This toolkit contains useful information on screening, diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of adolescent depression.

The toolkit includes helpful documents such as a depression monitoring flow sheet. Contains links to resources to promote a culturally competent diagnosis. Talks about the FDA back box warning regarding suicide ideation and SSRIs. The toolkit cites practical ways to help prevent suicide in depressed adolescents. Outlines the process for mental health referrals and provides HIPAA-compliant forms to facilitate the referral process. The toolkit discusses how to speak to parents and adolescents about depression and contains a helpful listing of educational materials for parents and adolescents.
